About Chilipper’s Painting

Artist Bio

Yasuyo Corbett is a Japanese contemporary artist and the founder of Chilipepper’s Painting, based in Lake Tahoe. Working primarily in acrylic and mixed media, she creates vibrant paintings of black bears and flowers that celebrate nature, emotion, and human connection.

Raised in Osaka, Japan, she is a certified master of Ohmuro-ryu Ikebana, a traditional Japanese school of flower arrangement. Its philosophy of harmony, balance, and the beauty of negative space continues to shape her artistic vision.

Before becoming a full-time artist, she worked in visual merchandising for global brands including UNIQLO, adidas, Coach, and Universal Studios Japan. Her background in visual storytelling continues to influence the composition, movement, and emotional experience of her work.

After moving to Lake Tahoe, she found endless inspiration in its mountains, forests, and wildlife. Encounters with black bears—especially the quiet kindness she discovered in their eyes—transformed her artistic direction. Bears have since become symbols of empathy, resilience, and hope, while flowers reflect harmony, impermanence, and the quiet beauty of everyday life.

The name Chilipepper’s Painting was inspired by a nickname from her husband, reflecting her belief that just as a touch of spice can transform a meal, a single painting can brighten someone's day.

Her work has been exhibited in the United States, Japan, and Taiwan and is held in private collections internationally. Through "A Little Spice For You," she hopes to bring warmth, joy, and meaningful connection into everyday life.
