Artist Statement

My work explores the quiet connections between people, nature, and emotion.

Living in Lake Tahoe changed the way I see black bears. While they are often admired for their strength, I was drawn to something quieter—the kindness reflected in their eyes. That discovery became the heart of my work. I paint bears not simply as wildlife, but as companions who remind us to slow down, trust ourselves, and care for one another.

Flowers are equally important to my practice. Through my training in Ohmuro-ryu Ikebana, I learned that beauty exists in harmony, balance, negative space, and impermanence. These principles continue to guide every composition, allowing bears and flowers to express both strength and gentleness.

Using layers of acrylic paint and mixed media, I build each painting with vibrant color and expressive texture. My hope is not only to create something beautiful, but to create a moment—one that invites viewers to pause, breathe, and reconnect with themselves.

Through Chilipepper's Painting, I hope to offer "A Little Spice For You." Just as a touch of spice can transform a meal, I believe art can brighten everyday life. If someone smiles, feels comforted, or leaves one of my paintings with a little more hope than they had before, then my work has fulfilled its purpose.
