The Voyage Within explores the journey of life through color, texture, and Japanese kanji.
As a Japanese artist creating in America, I incorporated four characters that carry personal meaning: 美 (Beauty), 拓 (Opening New Paths), 幸 (Happiness), and 挑 (Challenge).
Though they appear to float independently across the painting, each is connected—just as our challenges, happiness, beautiful moments, and new paths become part of the same journey.
Layers of color, texture, and mixed media give the work depth and movement, bringing a piece of my Japanese roots into a contemporary abstract language.
